چکیده

A way of describing lateral acceleration for fatigue assessments is discussed. The purpose of the model is to parameterise the different sources of the fatigue load, such as the operating environment and the influence of the driver. The measured lateral acceleration is modelled with an approximative curvature, and the average speed explaining centripetal acceleration in the curve. The difference between the model and the observed lateral acceleration (the residual) is further analysed. An algorithm for extracting the curvature is presented based on road construction requirements and suitable statistical distributions for different driving conditions are suggested. The algorithm is verified using proving ground measurements and video recordings in field. A regression model for the relation between the curvature and the chosen speed is investigated. The acceleration residual is modelled by a transformed normal process. For the model of the centripetal acceleration, explicit expressions for the expected cumulative fatigue damage and range spectrum using rainflow cycles are given. For the residual an upper bound for the expected damage is shown. Comparison between the modelled loads and observed loads are made in terms of cumulative fatigue damage and range spectra. The influence of different drivers and markets are discussed.

Load Modelling for Fatigue Assessment of Vehicles – a Statistical Approach

A way of modelling loads in customer usage for fatigue life considerations of vehicles is discussed. The starting point is lateral vehicle loads acting on trucks. Customer usage is described by using road classification. Within each road class the loads are assumed to be similar and a particular customer can be modelled on the basis of the distance the driver drives in each road class. A parame...

Modelling of Random Geometrical Imperfections and Reliability Calculations for Thin Cylindrical Shell Subjected to Lateral Pressure

It is well known that it is very difficult to manufacture perfect thin cylindrical shell. Initial geometrical imperfections existing in the shell structure is one of the main determining factor for load bearing capacity of thin cylindrical shell under uniform lateral pressure. As these imperfections are random, the strength of same size cylindrical shell will also random and a statistical metho...
